Sean Fietje

Hello, my name is Sean Fietje and I am excited to be one of the Lower Primary Visual Art Teachers this year. The 2020-2021 school year is my first at HKIS and my seventh as a Primary Visual Arts Teacher. I am from New Zealand where I taught for almost ten years in the upper primary before moving to South Africa in 2014 to teach visual arts at the American International School of Johannesburg. After six wonderful years there, my wife Daniella, energetic ten-month-old boy Leo and I have made the move to Hong Kong. Daniella is also a teacher and will be teaching grade three at HKIS.

Art is in my blood. My mother is a practicing painter and I have also painted most of my life. I particularly enjoy painting New Zealand landscapes.

To spend my days creating opportunities for children to explore ideas, take risks, and solve problems through artmaking is my privilege and I am looking forward to exploring new art-making processes with our young HKIS artists.

I am lucky to be teaching in one of the amazing classrooms at the Repulse Bay campus. Please pop in to the art room anytime to say hi!
